Contemporary Heroes have saved the world from certain destruction!

A couple reminders about raiding:

To raid with CH you need to apply for raid rank. The current requirements can be found here: http://www.the-contemporary-heroes.net/forums/viewtopic.php?f=33&t=2926

I also wanted to say a few things about what the job of a DPS in the raid is. I started to say that, but Vess found someone who has already explained it. This is a must read if you are a dpser who wants to raid.

New Content Time

It is now time for us to concentrate once again on new content. The good news is having three tiers of raiding will get the guild back to functioning the way many remember it in regards to raiding.

Our raid ranking and evaluation system is under new management. The person running it is a real jerk, so be warned. Its me.

In all seriousness, I encourage you to use this week to explore 5-mans, try out the LFR, throw some stuff into void storage and get all of your addons functioning. The new raid ranks, along with raiding schedules will be available next Monday after i confer with my fellow guild officers and finish saving the world in a variety of real life sort of ways.

THIS DOES NOT MEAN there is no raiding this week folks. Invites will be going out today for the week. (Players will be invited according to their existing raid ranks).

Remember, be safe, have fun, make fun of Tungol!

Be Reaady for Raiding

When you come to a raid ready raid, remember you have applied for the position of Raid Ready raider, with that position you get the right to be invited to Tier 11 raids, but you also have the personal responsibility to be READY every time you show up for that raid.

When you, personally, do not come to a raid ready to do your job, you are letting down the 9 or 24 other people in your raid group. The current raiding content (even the raids that are not Firelands) is difficult. One person can make the difference between a dead boss and a repair bill. YOU need to make sure you are doing everything you can to help raids YOU attend be successful. I’m going to outline some of those things.

Gear
Do your best to have gear that is the best you can get. If there are items you can purchase with justice points, get them prior to raiding. Spending even a little bit of time each week making sure your gear is current will pay off. Gearing doesn’t end with acquiring an item. You also need to make sure you are properly gemmed and enchanted.

Flasks and Buff Food
In most raids, a fish feast is provided. It is extremely helpful if you can assist in obtaining materials or if you can provide some of the feasts. It is a good idea to have a stack of personal buff food in case you miss a feast or are the only raid member to die. The guild bank can probably help you here, but again it is your responsibility. Flasks are expensive, so flasks are a personal decision. If you need a flask to perform at a competitive level, use a flask. We often have guild cauldrons available, so it is a good idea to ask before using a personal flask. Like feasts, any help in contributing cauldron materials is appreciated.

Knowledge
It is essential that raiders stay current with the changes to their class and spec. Now, I understand that we have a lot of casual raiders, so I am not asking for each indivual person to spend a lot of time researching. In our guild there are people who do spend time researching who can help you. If you need help finding a mentor, let me or Blaeys know and we can connect you with someone. It is also helpful to have a basic knowledge of the boss fights.

Pay Attention
Raid leaders do not give boss explanations to hear themselves speak. Pay attention. Ask questions if you are unsure of what is going to happen. Be aware that in many boss fights there is a significant amount of avoidable or mitigatable damage. Know when to self heal, eat cookies, use band aids, etc. Use all your abilities to help the raid, interrupt, dispel, debuff and all those happy things.

Be Considerate of Others
I don’t know that there is more to say about this.

Have a Good Attitude
If we kill every boss in the game and it wasn’t fun, it still was just no fun. This is a game, and it should be fun. The attitude you have going into the raid can make a big difference.

Here are some general raiding guidelines that I'm posting as a reminder:

* It is not about the purple shinies. Don't whine in vent and guild chat about loot.

* Keep vent clear during fight descriptions, loot rolls and during any boss/trash fights.

* Any issues during the raid, or in general, need to go to the raid leader or an AGM or Fire in a whisper.

* Follow the raid leader's instructions during the fight. During the fight is not the time to make suggestions on how to kill the boss/trash.

* Be flexible to raid needs if you have more than one toon that is ready to raid.

* Whisper AFK/BRB to the Raid Leader, not in raid chat, if they need to step away.

* Keep whispers to the raid leader about a particular boss strategy to a minimum. Do not whisper the raid leader about it once the fight has started.

* Use the calendar system to accept, decline or mark tentative for raiding. If you don't mark the calendar you cannot be upset about missing or being replaced.

* Be on time for raid invites. If you are late for an invite, whisper the raid leader when you log in, but do not be upset if you are placed on standby at that point.

* If you have a complaint about the raid please send a tell, or mail, to the raid leader after the raid unless it is something that needs to be handled asap.

* If you are going to be offline, or have limited availability, let Fire know or post to the website.

* Keep in mind that this is a game that people play for fun. Do not treat anyone, especially those going out of their way for you to have fun, poorly or disrespectfully.

Guild Pirate Week is here

Today is Pirate Day in Azeroth. For those who remember last year, you know this is a special time for us Contemporary Heroes. We are going to kick this off right. Make sure you sign up for the "Guild Pirate Event" which starts tonight (Monday, Sept 19) at 5:45 server time. You can join at any time after that and jump right into the fun.

Here are just a few (not all) of the activities we have planned:

"Pirates of Penzance, Watch us Dance" - Guild "photograph" in pirate garb. Use the pirate food or create your own pirate costume from scratch. If we have enough people in custom made costumes, we may have a little vote to see who's is the best. You can see my costume in the post in the regular forums below.

"Mutiny at Gurabashi" - All guild pvp Free for All. There will be no rules and no winners. If you die, you will be allowed to return to the fight. This will last half an hour. The goal is to take out your aggression on your fellow guildmates (or, for healers, to see how many you can save). Feel free to focus on/harass a single guild member (officer or otherwise) or just see how many different Contemporary Heroes you can kill in the time allotted. The choice is yours.

"For the Captain's Entertainment" - We will split into two semi random groups and use the Wargames function (http://www.wowwiki.com/War_Games) to challenge each other to large scale battlegrounds. Groups can be as small as 5v5 or as large as 40v40. As far as I can tell, the groups can be any size in between (for example, a group of 17v18 or 7v7 would be possible), so everyone will be able to participate. The only limit, unfortunately, is this will have to be only lvl 85s (but if we have multiple lower level members in the group, we will find a way for you to participate if possible). We will stay in the same vent to make things that much more confusing/fun. DPS will be split randomly, but healers will be split evenly among both groups. If we do more than one, we will mix the groups up between matches. There will be a special "Mutiny" award for killing the most guild officers during these battlegrounds.

This is just a taste. We have a couple of other fun surprise activities planned that we aren't ready to share with you yet. You will have to actually show up to find out what they are :).

Vent is not required, but it will make things alot more fun for you. Cutting up/talking out of turn in vent will be encouraged and possibly even rewarded. Pirates aren't really known for their tact. I strongly encourage you have vent set up for this event.

A CH Cataclysm Progress Update

With a new patch, I thought it was a good time to look back and list some of our successes as a guild since The Cataclysm –

- More than 100 unique characters have raided successfully (downed at least one boss) with the guild since January. This is based on logged raids and the actual number is probably closer to 150.

- More than 80 unique characters have obtained at least one piece of ilvl 359 gear from a raid boss (not counting drops from Baradin Hold, VP and rep gear, which we do not log) since January.

- We have 17 progression kills (includes both 10 and 25 player kills) and we are killing most bosses reliably every week (we aren’t done).

- We were one of the first level 25 guilds on the server.

These are just the measurable successes. There are many others (for example, I know we are PvPing a lot more - and more successfully - than we did in Wrath).

We’ve had a lot of fun since the expansion launched late last year, and we are just getting started. There is still a lot of raiding to be done (much of it still in BoT, BWD and To4W). Remember our guild goal is about giving everyone the chance to raid (which, based on the numbers above, I think we are accomplishing).
